Grade 8s spent a lot of time compiling ideas about the qualities and symbols that make them who they are. We began first by brainstorming and then started working with simple images to associate. Students learned about the sacred art of mandala among several Asian cultures, but mainly Tibetan. See all of the amazing designs at our Artsonia Gallery > button to the right! Grade 7's created beautiful fall compositions using oil pastels. For many students this was their first time using the material to blend and create the amazing contrast of highlights and shadows. These drawings came out so beautifully, I was really proud and so were the students. Check the rest out on Artsonia! The Grade 8's created dynamic compositions after talking about the Spanish tradition of Dia de los Muertos. Not usually celebrated in Canada - but we have several students from Mexico with us and they let us in first hand of how they celebrate. Using oil pastels, students combined different aspects of what we had discussed in interesting and colourful ways. Check out all of the students pieces on Artsonia!
